All that seems to get corrupted is the userprefs.mel file so this is all that normally must be deleted. This way if you have to completely wipe the maya folder you are not left with all your plugins, scripts, hotkeys, marking menus, and shelves ganked!

I set the shader up loading a map file and changing it from Phong to Lambert. But as I described in the first post deleting history doesn't help. I run 4 machines, they have different hals, hardware, and software and all 4 have the same issues with Maya.
